  1. Wash and soak Toovar daal and Masoor daal for an hour. Put daal in the pressure cooker with 1/4 tsp haldi and little salt. In another pan, boil drumsticks. and baby onions for around 15 mins.
  2. In another pan, add 2 tbsp of Ghee. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, methi seeds, curry leaves, Whole red chilies and asafoetida.
  3. Add Garlic and saute’e for 2 minutes.
  4. Add sliced onions and saute’e for 5-7 minutes, till they appear a little soft.
  5. Add tomato and cook till they are soft and mushy.
  6. Add Coriander powder, Red chili powder, Turmeric Powder and salt.
  7. Add the boiled drumsticks and baby onions. Add the boiled daals too.
  8. Add Tamarind paste. Mix everything well.
  9. Add the Jaggery.
  10. Once the Daal comes to a boil, add the sambhar powder. Mix well.
  11. Add the dry coconut powder.
  12. Serve with Rice and Peanut Chutney. If Non vegetarian, its great if you serve some chicken kebab on the side.
